Voxel City is a city builder for people who like watching a town come together more than they like being punished for getting it wrong. You start with a patch of land and one road in. Lay a street, zone some homes, shops and industry, and the Voxies arrive. Each one has a home, a job and a day of their own, and you can follow any of them about.
Under the soft look there's a proper city builder. Roads join themselves up, every junction can be set up how you like, and there are buses, trains, a metro, gondolas, docks and a grass airfield. Buildings need materials to grow, dug from rich and poor ground and made in the town's own works, then brought to the site on the builders' lorry. One tree of Town Plans, paid for in Ideas, takes a market town through five eras to the 2040s, and the rubbish really goes somewhere, to landfills that fill up and can be capped as hill parks.
It stays gentle. There's no game over. If money runs low the town tells you and services wind down, and storms and floods are off unless you switch them on. Click any home and it tells you what it needs next, with the button to fix it right there.
Voxel City is made in Unreal Engine 5 by Wayne Fellows, on his own, in the UK. It plays with a mouse and keyboard or a controller, in English and 25 more languages.
