A small one to finish the week.
The game's interface was full of pills. Tabs, buttons, the little chips with a number in them, the key caps, the NEW badge. They were all rounded off at the ends until they looked like something out of a medicine cabinet. I'd been looking at them for months, and the more I looked the less I liked them. Next to the soft glass panels they looked cheap.
So they've gone. Everything is a soft rectangle now, rounded at the corners and no more. A tab strip, a button, a chip and a key cap all share the same rule for how round they get, so they finally look like they belong together.
Keeping them gone
The awkward part with something like this is that they creep back. One new window, one copied bit of code, and there's a pill again.
So the test bench that walks through every screen in the game now counts them. Anything drawn with words on it that's rounder than half its own height is a pill, and the count has to be zero. Before the change it found 109 different pills on the main windows. Now it finds none.
It caught something else on its first run, which I liked. The new Space Academy tile's name wrapped onto two lines at a small screen size with big text, so the tile just says Academy now. The inspector still gives the full name.
It's a tiny change really. But it's one of those things you notice every time you open a menu, and now I've stopped noticing it.
