Education used to be three tiles. A school, a university and the 5G mast. Tech was three more. Now that Town Plans runs on Ideas, and schools are where most Ideas come from, those two tabs needed to be a lot more interesting.
Education has 12 buildings now and Tech has 9.
Smaller schools
A full school is a big red-brick thing on a 2 by 3 plot, which is a lot for a village. So there's a village school now, one stone room under a slate roof with a bell cote and a playground behind. Children within six tiles count as schooled. It has no levels and makes no Ideas, but it fits where the big school won't.
There's a nursery with a rainbow parapet and buggies parked out front, and a forest school with a log circle round a fire pit, a mud kitchen and a rope swing. The forest school counts as a school for five tiles round it. Both of them count as places nearby for the homes that want them.
Places that make Ideas
A trade college teaches the grown-ups round it a trade and makes an Idea a month. The makerspace has a 3D printer and a laser cutter in the window and does the same. The science centre is the clever one. Every school within twelve tiles makes one more Idea a month, so it's worth putting it in the middle of a few.
Later on come a tutor hub, a little rounded pod with a robot tutor waving by the door that counts as a school for eight tiles, and a hologram campus with a globe floating over its plaza, which counts as a university.
Tech
Tech is mostly about Ideas too. The town data office has a whole front that's one big glowing dashboard, and the digital twin centre has a little model of the town glowing in light on its plaza. The thinking lab makes six Ideas a month, which is a lot.
Some of it does other jobs. The clean air tower pulls smoke out of the air and raises land value around it. The helper robot hall means homes nearby grow using half the materials. The satellite uplink gives online cover to the whole quarter. Its dishes were a staircase of tilted rows at first, and from behind they looked like spikes, so they're proper round bowls on turntables now.
The weather station makes storm and heatwave warnings come twice as soon, and helps flood parks keep the streets dry a bit further out. Storms are off by default, so it sits quietly until you switch them on.
The space academy
The last one is the space academy. It has a planetarium dome on the roof and a white training rocket on its stand, and it makes eight Ideas a month and draws visitors like a landmark does. It has to stand by the rocket pad, within five tiles of the middle of it.
That means it's a late game building. By then, though, you'll probably want the Ideas.
